07-22-21: In order to get close to Glacier I had booked a night with a Harvest Host location in Polson, MT which is about an hour from the west entrance. When I arrived they let me know they had a spot in their campground with electricity and well water to fill up my dry tanks. Having been off the grid boondocking for the last 4 nights that sounded pretty good to me. A secluded spot in an old apple orchard, what a great place to spend the night.

After a quiet night in the orchard, I was up early and heading to the park full steam ahead. The route took me along the Eastern shore of the beautiful Flathead lake which seems full, a total change from every other lake I have seen so far this summer!
I arrived and was inside the western gate of the park by 9am. Stopping in the Apgar visitor center, I was surprised to find it already crowded so I just grabbed a map and hit the Going to the Sun Road. Right after leaving the visitors center you are immediately on the shore of Lake McDonald. It is quite beautiful and I stopped for photos, disappointed at how hazy the air is today. I know the photos won’t turn out the best with all the smoke in the air.

While the air was hazy the water in the Flathead river is so clear.

And it wasn’t long until I found my first Glacier waterfall.

It was at this stop that I first saw one of the vintage red buses that are used for tours. Pretty cool.

The Going to the Sun road is a great drive, I’d really like to bike it sometime!
This is as close to a picture of a bull moose as I was able to get.

I made a loop and exited the Eastern entrance at St Mary’s after stopping for lunch lakeside.
Just scratching the surface with one day, I definitely will return to spend more time at this amazing park.
More PHOTOS.
Nice photos. riding on those 1930s busses looks like fun. The haze in the photos was not very apparent.
