6-17-21: Hoping for some relief after the 125 degree days in Death Valley, I had plans to finish the week in Palm Springs, still the desert… right. Shadow hills RV park was very nice and had placed me in a spot that would shade me from the afternoon sun, but with temps in the 112-115 degree range it wasn’t much help.

The RV park has cabins and vintage trailers that you can stay in, pretty cool!

Focusing on indoor activities I visited the Palm Springs Air Museum. They have a very respectable collection of unique aircraft. A definite must see for the propeller head in the family. Rather than overwhelm you with a bunch of photos, I’ve decided to start linking to my google photos album, so if you want to see all the photos click on the image below or this LINK.

Still trying to beat the heat I stopped in at Lapperts Ice Cream for the famous Dole Whip, you may have had one in Hawaii or Disney before, very refreshing!
The next morning I checked the weather and Palm Springs was predicted to be 115 again and having exhausted most of the indoor sites on my list, I started checking the surrounding areas looking for a place to escape the heat. I noticed it was only in the mid-70’s in San Diego and well, it IS one of my favorite cities in California. I opted to spend some credit card points and get a room for the weekend. Taking the longer route I was able to check out the Salton Sea, something I’ve always wanted to see. It is glorious in its ruin and funky art installations.
Arriving in San Diego I was greeted by the fog and the blessed relief I was seeking. On Saturday I visited the USS Midway, the historic WWII aircraft carrier that is Docked in San Diego harbor. It was a fascinating way to spend the afternoon. I also swung by Coronado Island just to check it out. Click on the photo for the whole album.

I am so glad I decided to beat the heat and visit San Diego!
Next stop Vegas!

What a fun trip. San Diego, this time of year, is hard to beat. Certainly better than Death Valley. Have a great trip, bro’.
